On Hannigram and Cherik
Oct. 17th, 2015 12:11 amI just realized how alike Will/Hannibal and Charles/Erik are.
Will is an empath, Charles is a telepath, they both isolate themselves to keep out the psychic impressions from other people.
Both are betrayed by Erik/Hannibal, who does things they can't forgive and takes away their beloved Raven/Abigail.
Erik and Hannibal do things that they recognize others would call immoral, but they view as moral according to their own morality. (The discussion of Hannibal's beautiful = moral vs. Will's moral = beautiful has been illuminating.)
Both pairings are driven apart by their differing moral codes even though they love each other.
And those differing moral codes are so fundamental to their relationship that I can't read fics where they truly agree philosophically (fulldark!Will or whatever). On the other hand, AUs are a great way of reducing the stakes of those differences so we can have a happy ending.
