Aug. 13th, 2005 07:58 pmSo, uh, just after watching the first episode of "21 Jump Street" I can already tell that I'm gonna like this show. It is soo cheesy. But I like the punks. And all the boys in makeup and earrings and tight clothes, Johnny *Depp* in makeup and earrings and tight clothes GUH. Even though his character is kind of dumb with retarded "issues."
JOHNNY: I am going to be a big, doughnut-eating, potbellied, coffee-drinking cop just like my dead father no matter *what*!
ANY OTHER CHARACTER: Uh, you don't exactly look like the type to be that kind of cliche...
JOHNNY: LALALA JUST LIKE MY FATHER!
ANY OTHER CHARACTER: In fact, aren't you a little young to be--
JOHNNY: ::eyes turn red:: You did not just go there!
::PUNCH!::
::SMACKDOWN!::
::FALSE ARREST!::
::GETS IN TROUBLE!::
-----
OTHER CHARACTERS: [insert gratuitous use of arcane 80s slang here].
JOHNNY: What means this [repeats slang with adorable embarassed brow wrinkle]? For, verily, I am out of touch with the urban vernacular. And also, I was beaten up in school because I was too pretty.
OTHER CHARACTERS: Uh, okay. But here in the Chapel of Immaturity, I mean, Justice, we don't beat up those who are pretty, we dress them up! And do their hair! And put makeup and jewelry and tight pants and leather on them!
JOHNNY: Are you sure this is really part of being a cop...
OTHER CHARACTERS: BELIEVE US. Your job requires you to look as pretty as possible! For real! ::stare blankly at him::
JOHNNY: ::messes up the job again::
OTHER CHARACTERS: ::shake heads:: Geez, its a good thing you're pretty.
I so applaud their priorites of making everyone look pretty first, and then teaching them some job skills. And I'm sorry, but his Issue is way too overplayed. (And God, could that fake "conversation" between Johnny and his dad have sounded any more like two robots speaking? Seriously, this does not tug on my heartstrings.) I could see some fic about the fact that he misses his dad and some high school or academy fic about always getting beat up because he was pretty. In fact, if someone could write a fic where he has like a traumatic experience and his abuser always talks about how young he is or something, then I could make sense of that being a trigger in canon. Please someone write a fic to make it make sense to me (like Hth's "Sybilla Ti Theleis" made sense of Vecchio and Stella owning a bowling alley) because right now it doesn't.
Haha, I can't believe I'm talking about it this much after only the first episode. But the black captain from "Forever Knight" guest starred in this episode as a bad guy, hee. And it was funny to see Peter DeLuise looking semiattractive with that earring. It's a fact of life that earrings make everyone look better.
Oh the Eighties! I'm waiting impatiently for another 80s show to finish downloading: "Robin of Sherwood." I'm really excited, it seems like just my kind of show. *^_^*
Hmm. All these English-speaking shows I've been watching since Due South took over my brain... I mean, not that I didn't watch English shows before, it's just that I watched anime too. I need to start watching some of the vast amounts of anime I have lying about. That would probably help with my Japanese. (Although not my kanji ::cries::)
I'm going to go see "Mama Mia" today. I hope I can understand enough of it...
I watched the new "Thomas Crown Affair" yesterday. Entertaining, but not as good as the original. Cute little references to the original throughout though. Faye Dunaway looks really good.
I got a keitai the other day and it is so nifty! All these little features I had no idea existed! Japanese-English dictionary among them. ::grins::
I spilled a little water on my comp last night. And though it seems to be okay, it seems now that my q key is broken. Bummer. ::huggles computer:: Computer, I'll never take you for granted. I won't lose you to fire or water!

Date: 2005-08-16 01:18 am (UTC)I did find some Sentinel on eMule so hopefully I will see some. ^_^ Argh I should watch the "Beauty and the Beast" I have lying around to complete my 80s fest. Hee.
And my keyboard is kinda defunct. ::cries:: I'm using a screen keyboard until I order a new keyboard. ::shakes tiny fist at liquidy evil::
