Fallen

Fandom: Due South
RayK-centric, F/K

Warnings: Rated C for Callum. Ultimately slashy, especially in the Goldilocks and the Three Mounties part, but also het warning for Stella and angst warning for...well the whole vid, but the Beth Botrelle part in particular.

So I finally made another vid!

::hears crickets chirping::

Well, I know it *has* been a while since my last one. I did this one in about a week as well on my shiny new laptop. This vid also ate my brain. It is a RayK angst vid, supplanting the Dief angst vid in my vid-making lineup. (Thank God. I mean even I was having trouble taking that idea seriously.)

I am happier technically with this vid than the last one, but I am not as happy with the narrative structure, or lack thereof. I tried to tell a lot of stories in this vid, and I'm not so sure that what came out couldn't be interpreted in many other ways than the one I was going for. Anyway, I was going for (in the Fraser section), Ray gaining back his power by evening the score with the second punch and then going off on the honeymoon with Fraser happy because he's treated as an equal and isn't fucking up so much anymore. But really any interpretation you want to make is also valid. That's why vids (and fandom in general, and, you know, literary theory) are so interesting to me.

Lyrics:

Artist: Sarah McLachlan
Song: Fallen

Heaven bent to take my hand
And lead me through the fire
Be the long awaited answer
To a long and painful fight

Truth be told I've tried my best
But somewhere along the way
I got caught up in all there was to offer
And the cost was so much more than I could bear

Though I've tried, I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I've messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...

We all begin with good intent
When love was raw and young
We believed that we could change ourselves
The past could be undone
But we carry on our backs the burden
Time always reveals
In the lonely light of morning
In the wound that would not heal
It's the bitter taste of losing everything
That I have held so dear.

I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I've messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...

Heaven bent to take my hand
Nowhere left to turn
I'm lost to those I thought were friends
To everyone I know
Oh they turned their heads embarassed
Pretend that they don't see
But it's one missed step
One slip before you know it
And there doesn't seem a way to be redeemed

Though I've tried, I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I've messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...

I've messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...

Okay, I'm always nervous when someone vids to one of my fav songs... but this ROCKED! I liked the symmetry of it, Ray with what he would consider his biggest failures in life- Stella, Beth Botrelle, and almost losing Fraser. It's angsty and sad and warm and with a happily every after! It's... it's... wonderful. Really.

My fav parts:
-"a long awaited answer" to RayK's and Fraser's first meeting.
-"the cost was so much more than I could bear" line as the intro to the Stella part. Ray watching them in mirror was perfect with that line.
-"don't come around here and tell me I told you so", to Fraser knocking on the door and interrupting Ray and Stella- that was PERFECT.
-"We all begin with good intent", laid over the images of WeeRay and WeeStella in the bank was wonderful. it really brought home how much of a beginning to the RayK we all know and love that that one day was. Without that bank, Ray wouldn't be the man that we all love so much.
-"the past can be undone" to Ray and Stella kissing. I admit to having a weakness for RayK/Stella, a SERIOUS weakness, and that hit me right in the chest!
-"turn their heads, embarrased", I liked how this lead us from Beth Botrelle right into Ray's relationship with Fraser. Lovely.
-And then they get to RIDE OFF INTO THE SUNSET TOGETHER!

OMG, this is SO good. Reccing it in my LJ RIGHT NOW!

::debates between using her angsty RayK icon or her Stella/RayK one::

Oh oh OH! This was so beautiful. My eyes were all watery by the end. I love the scenes you chose and the edits, which wove so perfectly with the lyrics, particularly the quick cuts with Ray's dad and Stella. It gives the vid a wonderful narrative. And I also love a good dose of Ray angst ;) Again, BEAUTIFUL!

Sent here by [livejournal.com profile] estrella30 and boy, did she know what she was talking about.

That was a fantastic vid. It had Callum ::sigh:: and all the drama and highs and lows of the series.

Thanks for sharing.

That was fantastic. And I thought the narrative you were going for came through, as well. I would leave more detailed feedback, but it's late. Suffice to say, it was wonderful!

This is amazingly great. I was nervous about the song choice, since although McLachlan's perfectly appropriate for the fandom, her songs are often used as emotional anvils in bad vids at large. This is not one, though. You have really created an emotional arc, and chosen the scenes to create a mood of hurt but ultimately hope. My favorite is the punching bag scene interspersed with the other footage near the middle.

Here via [livejournal.com profile] estrella30 as well. That was just brilliant! I love the flow of the images you've used, and how amazingly well you've matched the beat of the action to that of the song. I rarely freak over vids, but that was wonderful, thanks :)

Nice work. I think it's a pretty song and you did a good job of putting the clips together, but I also thought that in places the action and motion of the clips were too fast for the music. It's tough, because the song changes pace a lot, but Ray K is an active and frenetic character all the time. Running and shooting and talking fast don't lend themselves well to a ballad. It's nice to still see dS vids, though, so thanks for working on it and posting it. I'm all over fannish participation!

Followed [livejournal.com profile] estrella30 here, too, and I'm so glad I did. I'm all hurty, and possibly teary-eyed, but in a good way. The whole thing really worked for me, so rather than listing specific parts, I'll just say you packed quite an emotional punch. I felt it in my gut. Thank you and more please.

thanks so much. saw the vid and liked it very very much. personally, i thought the song very well suited to the action - the song wasn't so ballad-y that it interfered with action shots.
thanks again - tally

Oh whoa, a friend of mine gave me some dS vids on DVD lately (I've got a stupidly ancient comp, so no way can I d/l the stuff myself) and yours here was among them and I really really enjoyed it. As I'm pretty new to the dS fandom I still feel a bit like exploding from the inside what with all these crazy fangirl feelings and your vid definitely brought these out, the crazy fangirl feelings, like, I had to start bouncing and grinning rather stupidly. :o) Glad I found you on LJ (had a look at the members listed on the [livejournal.com profile] ckr_actorfic pofile page and discovered your name there) and can tell you how much I liked this vid!

Ciao, Schizo :o)
