Thanks to
killabeez for an illuminating beta.
This is a general show vid. The song kind of ambushed me, as I had no intention of making any kind of Jeremiah vid ever, and had finished watching the show some time ago. But somehow this beat out all the vids I had plans for already. Ah, the lure of shiny.
I still think that this vid is really bad, all blah and incoherent. But I give up! It's DONE. Anyway, here's some of the things I was trying to say:
On "the dust has only just begun to form," obviously I was talking about the metaphorical dust settling after the huge explosion that was the Big Death. And the dust forms "crop circles in the carpet"-- graves, like Michael's grave.
This is a parallel to the part in the Kurdy section where "the takeover, the sweeping insensitivity of this still life" is also talking about the Big Death.
The first "hide and seek" is Jeremiah always trying to find his hidden father.
Jeremiah's "trains and soaring machines" flashback to a happy time in his childhood parallels Kurdy's happy flashback "where pleasure moments hung before."
The first "all those years" is talking Jeremiah and his father's long separation.
The first "they were here first" is talking about the military-industrial complex that was responsible for the Big Death in the first place. (And the monks. Because they're old. Basically, this is saying "The Old World was here first.")
The second "hide and seek" is Kurdy hiding from his repressed memories.
The second "trains and soaring machines" is Kurdy escaping from the Valhalla Sector 'copters that got Jeremiah. Also, Valhalla Sector's military encroachments in general that Kurdy fights.
The second "they were here first" is saying that the petty warlords and sickos were here first, after the Big Death and before any kind of benign governing body. These warlords and sickos caused some "blood and tears," so the blood and tears could also be the "they" here.
The "it's just what we need-- you decided this," is talking about the people behind Daniel deciding that Daniel was what the world needed. When what that really amounted to was a police state.
Then the next "what'dcha say?" is talking about Mister Smith relating Libby's betrayal, and the "what did she say?" is Libby's betrayal.
This third "hide and seek" is Jeremiah and Kurdy playing emotional hide and seek with each other, breaking up and making up.
Then the "trains and soaring machines" is everyone getting ready for war.
"All those years" with Mister Smith's absence in his daughter's daily life, and Jeremiah's in his son's, is a parallel to the earlier "all those years," about Jeremiah's father's absence in Jeremiah's life.
Then this leads into the last "they were here first." The "they" in this case is Markus, Jeremiah, Kurdy, Mister Smith, all the nation builders. And hopefully, with the children leading in, this line should have some kind of children's perspective on it. Like when the children grow up, they'll say, "Thunder Mountain and Jeremiah and Kurdy were here first, when the world first really began again after the Big Death." And the last shot of Mister Smith, Jeremiah, and Kurdy walking away is my attempt to evoke that process of them walking into legend.
Lyrics:
Hide and Seek
Artist(Band):Imogen Heap
where are we?
what the hell is going on?
the dust has only just begun to form
crop circles in the carpet
sinking, feeling
spin me 'round again
and rub my eyes,
this can't be happening
when busy streets a mess with people
would stop to hold their heads heavy
hide and seek
trains and soaring machines
all those years
they were here first
oily marks appear on walls
where pleasure moments hung before the take over,
the sweeping insensitivity of this still life
hide and seek
trains and soaring machines (you won't catch me around here)
blood and tears
they were here first
ooom what'dcha say,
emmm that you only meant well?
well of course you did
ooom what'dcha say,
emmm that's all for the best?
of course it is
emmm what'dcha say?
hmmm that it's just what we need
you decided this
mmmm what'dcha say?
hmmm what did she say?
hide and seek
trains and soaring machines
all those years
they were here first

Date: 2006-10-10 11:19 pm (UTC)Hopefully there is also some good fan fiction out there to find and read. I know there is some on FanFiction.net, but FF is what it is :)
My friend Telscha (thank you, Tels!!) gave me this link, and then poked me to Valhalla Sector.
It's nice to see the show has not totally slipped from view.

Date: 2006-10-11 08:17 am (UTC)Morgan Dawn has one here.
Lierdumoa and Kanzeyori have one here.
Keerawa has one here.
And there's one more by "Chris and Christina" set to a "Dear God" cover by XTC, but I can't find it online anywhere.
That's all I've been able to find. Kinda paltry, huh.

Date: 2006-10-11 10:50 am (UTC)There's been a bit of revival in Jeremiah fics lately, mostly Smith oriented. I've been writing for the last few months (I only just discovered Jeremiah!) and my stuff is all archived here (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=belleferret&keyword=Smith&filter=all). EEEE! You just missed me hanging up my laundry, chanting "haunting and powerful!" in a gleeful tone. Because clearly the laundry needed to know.
Thanks so much for your feedback!
(I also have a shameful lack of Jeremiah icons.)

Date: 2007-02-11 05:48 am (UTC)I just started watching this show for the first time. I'm only on about episode 5, but I was curious if there was any fic or vids or any kind of fannish work surrounding this show. "I Am the Highway" by MorganDawn is the only Jeremiah video I had ever seen. I wasn't sure if I should be watching anything, in case I spoiled myself, but wow. I am so glad I did. This video just blew me away. The vocals pulsing in a sort of rhythm against the imagery you chose is so powerful. And the flow/pacing is wonderful. Thank you for such a beautiful & heart-wrenching video! I see I have so much to look forward to in this series!

Date: 2007-02-11 09:02 am (UTC)Jeremiah is SO AWESOME YAY. I wish I could watch it with you for the first time again, all in order.
And if you want more Jeremiah vids, I linked to all the ones I know of earlier in the comments.

Date: 2008-01-03 04:11 am (UTC)And thank you so much for loving Sheridan/Delenn! It's my little noticed vid (that I love so much to pieces that I don't think it feels neglected in any way *g*) and it pleases me when someone else has seen it too!

Date: 2008-01-25 03:11 am (UTC)Although when I went to view it, it is Jeremiah, not Jericho (a show I also like!). I totally make the same mistake all the time, and you don't even know how confused my friends get. ^_^

I liked it, you've managed to put together a lot of the threads from the show without it wandering off target. =D
