Cheese in the Trap

fenlingsI was so excited to watch a drama with Park Hae Jin in it! The latter half did get a little boring/annoying with the Min Soo copycat plot, the ~stealing class notes~ plot, etc. But despite the behind-the-scenes controversy about the latter half, I was happy with this drama... until the last episode.
There was no reason for Hong Seol to have that final accident. It didn't advance her character development at all, and the "lesson" that Yoo Jung learned from it (hello fridging!) could easily have been learned without it. All the narrative beats that happened could have happened without the accident, so that really annoyed me to have the climax of the drama something that happened to the main character rather than something she was choosing.
Also Baek In Ho's plot! I was actually worried for him before the concours because he DEFINITELY couldn't ask anyone for money now, and what if he didn't win! He couldn't disappear OR go back to being a gangster when he had to take care of Baek In Ha. And when he got the phone call that everything was taken care of before he went on stage, that instantly removed all the stakes. WE NEVER EVEN FOUND OUT WHAT PLACE HE GOT. At least wait till after he performed to have the phone call tell us that it didn't matter! The only stakes then were his personal ~overcoming his issues~ stakes. And in the audience were the people that would care about that... except Hong Seol! Even though she recently renewed her promise to be there. ???????
Ugh, and Hong Seol and Yoo Jung - if you're going to have a timeskip, have one with at least a full episode left to resolve things! Or at the VERY least have a big romantic reunion crammed in the last 5 minutes. That whole "read email" thing was NOT enough. Ugh. Not to mention, there was no reason for him to leave in the first place. Going off to find yourself is such a rich person thing to do. How did he even support himself in those 3 years? He could have learned the lesson about being a real boy and having compassion AND STILL STAYED with Hong Seol. Who, news flash, CAN HELP HIM LEARN THOSE THINGS like she's been doing all along. When she explicitly asks you to stay, you cannot pretend that you know better than she does that what's really good for her is you leaving. When they were together, they were so super cute, so it made me mad to see their relationship ruined like that for no reason.
Yes, the soundtrack was A++ like Coffee Prince. And the characters reminded me of Hana Yori Dango - there were elements of Domyouji and Rui in Yoo Jung and Baek In Ho.
