Last night I watched Kimi wo Miagete, the drama where tiny Go is in love with a tall girl. It was well written and performed! I was surprised. It was thoroughly enjoyable. Yaaay cuteness + plot! I kind of want to sub it now. D:

So I was watching TV on the actual TV (a rare occurance), and I saw a few minutes of Star Trek: Enterprise (an even rarer occurance) when who should appear on the screen but ANDREAS KATSULAS. His beautiful face and voice and oh. After only one glorious moment though, the show cut to commercial. Then when I flipped back I swear to God I came in on the tail end of Archer and Trip having an emotional lover's argument. Cut to credits. Oh, well.

I watched all of Saigo no Koi in like one day. My God, those subs were off, often saying the exact opposite of what they should be. But baby Nakai did a good job, a little over/under acting, but mostly good and intense. Hee, he must have been SO EMBARRASSED at the love scenes, but that nervousness was in character at least. I really loved his character. <3333 And of course Tokiwa Takako was good. As for the writing, well... The exposition was shaky, the story tugged at my heartstrings, and the ending was pasted on. Yeah, pretty much everything you'd expect from Kitagawa Eriko.

My aunts visited recently and redid the garden, and then invading neighbor hordes came in to check it out, when they weren't spying on my aunts from their own yards. OMG! GTFO! ::hides:: And what's worse, digging up the yard gave rise to more invading hordes of the small buggy kind. >.<

SDK: Koichi's large handkerchief. I died. Aw, he's so adorable and delusional.

The Bonnie mention was an odd and interesting moment. They cut something out there, probably just more of them hemming and hawing, trying to remember, but Koichi being clueless is always cute.

Too bad about Adam losing Idol (not that I watch Idol), but now he's free to be his badass awesome self successfully.

Okay, seeing as I've read (and read and read) everyone's reaction posts, my viewing of the Star Trek film (it really doesn't have an actual name??) was a little biased, but here is my obligatory reaction post. )

Why did no one tell me that Julie was so hot?? Only NOW do I find out he's called the Japanese David Bowie and the pioneer of visual kei. Fandom fail! I knew he was famous, but I pictured the Tigers as like early-'60s Beatles, drawing crowds of screaming girls while not being very hot.

But Koichi's performances of Julie's Darling are hot (starts at 27:30). Hello jewelry and sultry looks. (I've really got to finish Tokikin.) And they reminded me of the cute way Koichi acts around Takuro-san. (BTW Takuro-san is totally hot with long, non-fro hair, wow.)

And so what with those performances and Toma's performance I was inspired to look for the real thing. Here's one - you can't really see it well in that one, but he does this totally limp-wristed thing on the chorus...

But this other song is so freaking hot. Talk about to-be-looked-at-ness. Not to mention queer coding and androgyny. Sailor hat! Jewelry!! Fanservice! I think it's impressive that he makes it obvious that dog-tags and hat-badges are just another form of jewelry.

I finished Hitotsu Yane no Shita season 1 in my great quest to watch everything Nojima Shinji has ever written, and omg. It was good! An-chan reminded me of Nagase in Mukodono, really weepy and hot-blooded and family-oriented. The gags did get a bit much and so did the melodrama, "accidental sighting" coincidences, and gender roles. There was some overacting too. I can tell that Nojima Shinji's writing has improved, but this was a real fun ride. Now I want to watch season 2! Except if I don't watch it I can keep my illusion that it will give me my two-brother-one-woman marriage. My OT3s are always so doooomed. ::clings to Concerto::

Change is the only drama I'm watching this season. And wow, it doesn't much disappoint. The cinematography and direction in episode 7 were breathtaking. And I'm glad they didn't give in to the easy cheesy plotline in episode 8. I want Bartlet Obama Asakura to come and govern me!

It is interesting to look at the unrealistic way (one of many) that the US President is colluding with power-hungry Kanbayashi, playing into the fear of foreign dominance (OMG the Americans scene made me CRINGE SO HARD embarrassing gaijin are NOT ALLOWED on my screen) and showing Kanbayashi's lack of patriotism, or loyalty to anyone but himself.

TOMA AND OHNO STAR AS BADASSES IN A DRAMA

<333333333

JAPAN, FOR THIS I ALMOST FORGIVE YOU FOR THE CRAPPY PHI DVD.

...If the rumors are to be believed and it is censored.

(Wah, the sponge pool kiss footage on TsuyoDigi that we might never see. That I suppose is just for his own private enjoyment, like so many other of their filmed and unreleased concerts. WTF. Give us a chance to give you money, JE.)

I didn't even realize this special ending to Ningen Shikkaku existed until I watched it today. I wonder why/when they filmed it, since Tsuyoshi's hair is different from Makoto's. But of course just watching that tiny clip made me CRY SO MUCH WAAAH. Oh the trauma from that drama. And yet I remember that when a Japanese teacher asked me what my favorite drama was, I answered Ningen Shikkaku, even though I'm sure that if I watched it again (::eyes LoveSong subs warily::) I would cry every single episode. But I really do love Nojima Shinji's dramas, and this one made a big impression on me.

On a more hopeful note, I remembered that I still have the burninated hard drives from my dorm fire 3 years ago, so I think some of my fanvids may be on there if I can figure out a way to get them out again. So all is not lost!

Despite all of [livejournal.com profile] paranoid_ninja's pleas and threats, it took [livejournal.com profile] onlymesmerized physically sitting down and marathoning BSG with me to get me back on watching it. (Haha, season 2 still!) So that is one western show I've been watching!

Mostly I've just been overwhelmed with the huge amounts of years Kinki stuff I have to catch up on. And then they keep doing new stuff! With other groups/fandoms I can follow them casually (Witness my not tracking down and watching all the British variety shows about DW and TW... or you know, catching up on the shows themselves.) but with Kinki I have that collector's feeling. Gotta catch 'em all! And mostly the huge amount of stuff is a good thing. The main reason I left Starsky and Hutch (and to some extent Due South) fandom was because I ran out of canon (and compelling fannish material). Once Speranza stopped writing Due South, once I'd read every S&H fic online and devoured morganlogan's oeuvre, I was kind of at a loss, so wandered away. In Kinki's case, there's a dearth of English language fannish material (unless you count rumor and speculation haha), but soooooo much canon.

So I've been starting to watch Love Love Aishiteru and Domoto Kyoudai in parallel from the beginning (i.e., 1st ep of LLA, 1st ep of DK, 2nd ep of LLA, 2nd ep of DK, etc.). It's so interesting to see the connections and differences between the two shows and the two snapshots-of-Kinki-in-time. But just with watching variety shows and listening to radio and watching concerts (Only Kinki! Not even Kanjani8 my babies or TOKIO or Arashi or anyone!) I have no time for my huuuuuge list of dramas, not to mention, err, Western TV... And those vids I have to make (Persuaders, Long Vacation, Farscape, S&H, Mars, Once a Thief, Majo no Jouken, Nikita, to mention a few).

Hahaha Tsuyoshi the kiss monster strikes again. Funny how the guy was like "Stop doing that to my partner!" (But I'll spare you my analysis/comparison of Kinki vs. comedian duos.)

When you kiss comedians, comedians kiss back. LOL at the music.

If there's anyone in the world that hasn't heard of the Kinki Kisses. They have seriously made my entire life. <33333333

It makes me wonder why Tsuyoshi freaked out when he told Gackt to try to kiss him. Though I do notice that Gackt tends to be one of the few who can get the best of Tsuyoshi, like he does here. (Hee, Tsuyoshi's オチます <3 was so cute. And kind of blatant fodder for any slash fic anyone was inclined to be writing about the two of them...) And that Shindoi episode with Gackt. Man, the more Shindoi episodes I watch, the funnier that episode is in comparison. Tsuyoshi is *completely* taken advantage of. I've got to find that SDK clip where Tsuyoshi makes a cute reference to Gackt swinging both ways.

Watching dramas at home = Yay! )

Who's excited about It Started with a Kiss 2??? I know I am! I anticipate many I-Love-Lucy-esque married hijinks!

So I made it through some more Ningen Shikkaku. But it's really hard. Because basically from the moment each episode starts to the moment it ends I'm just crying and crying. )

When I describe this series to [livejournal.com profile] otakucat2 she says "It sounds like emotional rape." And God, it *is*.

Oh well, THREE MORE EPS TO GO. ...YAY?

Wow, so the doctor and the brother's BIG GAY LOVE with the pink lightning (like what, a gay version of the Quickening?), boys wearing bras, the wangsting of Maki and Shun, the milk carton glowing HOMO at Toma... I just. Yeah. This was a good episode.

fenlings: (Default)
My God. I think this week's episode of Yamada Tarou was the most crazy love thing I've seen in a long long time. (This plus Spa World tomorrow will totally make up for this week's stress.)

I'll go into details later when I'm not so sleepy, but suffice it to say that I think the writers of this series are asking themselves two main questions:

1. How many times can we make Yamada crossdress?

2. How many ways can we make Mimura COMPLETELY GAY for Yamada?

Of course my main question is:

How many seasons can we get this show to run for?

OGURI SHUN IS KISSING MAKI RIGHT NOW. NDSJIAO;JWIAOJIW4OAJMGVKDSLAERO;

ETA: Apparently he gets DRUNK OFF PICKLES and has kissed every boy in the dorm. YES.

Toma's aura glows pink when he has gay thoughts of Maki. He gets *hearts* in his *eyes*. Then he and Maki have a TOTALLY GAY OKONOMIYAKI together and both stand up at different times and shout really loud how they're not homo and love women.

I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN TAKE THIS.

It's so bad but it's so good...

SON OF EDIT: Toma is doing a strip tease while keeping a soccer ball bouncing off his body. SKILLS. Good to see all those years of being a Junior are good for something.

The doctor admits he's "not interested in women" and gives Maki fashion and comportment advice. He really *is* like Matsumoto Jun.

Oguri Shun gets drunk AGAIN and tries to kiss Maki when Toma SHIELDS HER WITH HIS FACE and gets the kiss instead. They all three end up lying in a puppy pile together while ALL THE BOYS CLAP AND CHEER.

OH MY GOD.

OMG you guys!

Yamada Tarou Monogatari is AWESOME. I just watched the first episode.

I would watch it just for Nino and Sho of course, but I *really* like the story and the characters so far. The disaffected rich boy and family-oriented poor boy are two types I'm definitely attracted to. They kind of remind me of Makino and Domyouji. With the whole rich boy becoming obsessed with the poor one thing too. And omg Sho's smitten smile at the end as he was like "[I guess I'm Yamada's] friend, huh?" literally *knocked me over*. I went from a sitting to a lying position on the tatami in one toothy blow. I guess it's good I was already lying down for Nino's closing rooftop smile. My God.

Nino and Sho both showed *tremendous* charm and beauty in these roles--I could understand all their female classmates fainting. And I loved the plot device of Yamada obliviously causing everyone he meets to fall in love with him at first sight, while he's only in love with food. The Great and Noble Supermarket Battle for the croquets was *hilarious*. Hehehehe! The fantasy sequence elements were extremely well done--entertaining and much easier to swallow than Hana Kimi's real-life fantastical elements. The other actors/characters are good too. The Gokusen yakuza boss is the principal (who, like the Hana Kimi principal, makes endless comparisons between raising plants and raising children, only he does it with more personality), their homeroom teacher is a nervous woman trying to resist falling under Yamada's spell, and the main girl with the crush on Yamada is very good at her comedy.

I'm also a sucker for little kids and family-oriented drama. Those scenes with Yamada and his siblings totally made me tear up. Awwww. Plus next episode apparently has Nino in a maid's costume. Hello nurse.

In conclusion: Much better than Hana Kimi. A must watch for this summer season. Also now I really want to read the manga.
